Cooperators meet to harmonize on the Cooperative Societies Amendment ACT 2016 with the Ministry of Trade industry and cooperatives
On 2nd May 2019, the cooperators held a meeting at the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives Main Board room to harmonize on the Key sections in the Cooperatives Societies Amendment ACT 2016.
The meeting was chaired by the Assistant Commissioner Mr. Bob Bariyo Barigye. In his remarks, he emphasized that the Cooperative Societies Amendment ACT 2016 is to address some of the patent issues in the cooperative movement of Uganda. The commissioner for Cooperatives Mr. Joseph William Kitandwe opened the meeting on behalf of the State Minister for cooperatives and welcomed the cooperators.
At the meeting, the members and elders in the cooperative fraternity discussed with the ministry officials on several sections of the Cooperatives Societies Amendment Act 2016 and harmonized some of the contradictory statements in the Law.

During the meeting, Mr. Charles Kabuga, the former General Secretary Uganda Cooperative Alliance & Head of the Cooperative Clan, urged the Cooperative Officers to be guided by the 7 cooperative principles as they Amend the ACT in order to unify all forms of cooperatives.
Finally the State Minister Hon. Fredrick Gume thanked the cooperators present for showing commitment in drawing the law with them to regulate the cooperatives. The Minister requested the cooperator to shun internal conflicts in order for the cooperative movement to grow economically and steadily.
