Cooperators gathered across the country in the major city centers to donate blood. This was part of the week- long activities to commemorate Cooperatives Day celebrations that took place on 7th July 2018.
The blood donation drive was carried out in several districts like Kampala, Gulu, Amuru, Lira Mubende, Kasese, Mbale, Kitgum Masaka and Jinja.
In Kampala the cooperators gathered at the City Square. The blood donation drive by cooperative is in line with the 7th principle which is concern for the community and it was a upon the this that they all came to give back to the community and also recently there was an outcry for lack of enough blood in some hospitals
On that day the cooperatives donated over 1000 units of blood across the country. The turn up for this exercise was massive and hundreds of people joined the cooperators and donated blood.
The blood donation drive was organized by Uganda cooperative Alliance the apex body for all cooperatives in the county together with the Ministry of Trade Industry and Cooperatives The Uhuru Institute for Social Development.
Uganda Cooperative Alliance General Secretary was among the donors who donated blood on t together with some of UCA staff. The entire activity was very successful and we are grateful to all the cooperators who took part.
In some parts of the country like Gulu the weather condition was bad it rained so heavily nevertheless this did not stop the cooperators from donating blood. This are some of the number units of blood that was collected by press time Arua 67 units, Kampala 80units , Gulu 47 units, Mbable 100 units, Tororo 54 units, Lira 67 , Kamuli 68, Masaka 45 and Kasese 51.
Uganda cooperative Alliance was really humbled by the resilient hearts of cooperators that donated blood.
